Randolph — A Randolph man, was accused of shooting and killing his pet parrot as the parrot allegedly annoyed him when he was watching a NASCAR race on TV and was also drunk. He was indicted on Wednesday on a charge of animal cruelty.

Dennis Zeglin, 67-year-old, was charged with killing his African gray pet parrot, 20-year-old, named Mikey on June 7 at 4:30 p.m. According to the court documents, he shot the bird with a BB gun three times.
Zeglin has been accused of one count of third-degree animal cruelty. This is a crime punishable by three-to-five years in prison and also a fine of up to $15,000.
Zeglin’s wife was upstairs at the time of the incident. With the sound of gun shot she came down and found Zeglin sitting in his chair still and the bird was dead in its cage states the court documents.
However, Zeglin cooperated with the police and he voluntarily turned over his Daisy Powerline Model 93 CO2-cartridge BB gun so that it could be destroyed.
His attorney said that Zeglin was treated for alcoholism after the shooting.
