TAMPA – The man was 28-year-old and the girl was just 11. Her parents told that they gave consent. They had claimed for cultural norms of the Guatemalan highlands. However, apart from these, in Dover, Florida, the girl of just 11-year-old with a baby raises questions.

When Teodoro Pablo, the deputies, came, Ramirez could only understand only some of what they said says his lawyer. He does not know English and Spanish speaking is only little to him, just the Mayan tongue of Mam.

His indigenous language were understood only by few interpreters. This has stymied the court cases across the country. There was one interpreting service that resorted to recruiting a Mam speaker out of a jail lobby.

Two cases in the Hillsborough Circuit Court were too serious to dismiss. Both the cases are stalled due to lack of a Mam translator. In one of the cases, Wimauma girl, only 4-year-old, was raped. All the details of the case has been locked inside the victims mother. She only speaks Mam.

Pablo-Ramirez was convicted last year and was sentenced to life term in prison, before the judge of the court granted a motion for retrial for him.

Only Spanish interpreters could be provided by the court.
