Greg Oden, the #1 overall pick of NBA Draft, had to endure some embarrassment this week, when naked cellphone pictures of him leaked to the Internet.
Popular hip-hop video website, WorldStarHipHop.com, posted self-taken nude photos of the Portland Trailblazers center, which they say were leaked to them by a “jumpoff.”
Following the circulation of the photos, Oden held a press conference with Portland media Tuesday night (January 26), admitting that the flicks are, indeed, or him, before apologizing and expressing his embarrassment.
“First, I’d like to apologize to everybody … Portland, the fans, the organization. It was very embarrassing,” Oden said to reporters. “It was something that happened over a year and a half ago. I’m very sorry, and I’m definitely embarrassed for my family and everybody…”
According to Oden, a friend called him early Tuesday morning to tell him about photos. He says as soon as he heard what had happened, his “heart dropped.”
“It was a lady friend who I was having a relationship with, and it was just for her. It was definitely meant to keep private,” Oden explained.
Despite being humiliated, he says he’s learned a thing or two about trust. “I definitely learned a lot since it happened. Like I said, it was over a year and a half ago. I’ve definitely matured since then. You have to be careful with what you do, and who you trust,” Oden said.
Oden has been out of commission since early December, when he broke his left kneecap during a game against the Houston Rockets. He is expected to be out for the rest of the season.
“I’m obviously disappointed having worked so hard to get to where I was. This is a setback but I’ll be back. It’s in God’s hands now,” Oden said in a statement, following the injury. “I want to thank the fans, my teammates and everyone in the Blazers family for all of their good thoughts.”
He missed his rookie season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee. Then last season, he sat out six games after injuring his right foot in the season opener against the Lakers, before missing 14 games after the All-Star break with a bone chip in his left knee.
