There are numerous different types of insurance—a look online can bring as many as sixty nine different types of insurance available. Some are a bit abstract, such as political risk insurance and chargeback insurance. However, the bigger and better known types of insurance are health, life, automobile and homeowners insurance. These are four of the main types that many people have in an effort to ensure that their assets and their person are kept secure no matter what happens.

The first type, as mentioned above, is health insurance. When someone gets this type of insurance, what they are doing is investing in the fact that, in the future, they are going to need to go to the doctor or an accident might happen and they might need surgery. Paying for a surgery—especially some of the bigger ones that can run as expensive as $500,000—would be catastrophic to someone’s finances. By paying for health insurance, an individual is safe against the possibility of going into the hospital because the insurance company will pay for it. So, health insurance is insurance on someone’s health.

The next type is known as life insurance. Because everyone dies, what you are insuring here is your life. When you die, a policy is paid out to the family of the person. One would think this is a dumb type of insurance for a company to have because it’s guaranteed to pay out. They’re betting that you’ll pay premiums for long enough that they can make more than your policy in profit back from investments. Sometimes they lose; most of the time, they win.

The third type is an insurance known as vehicle or automobile insurance. Sometimes, accidents happen while driving. A brand new car can be anywhere from $15,000 up to $100,000 and sometimes even more. Without car insurance, if you get into an accident, you’re stuck covering the cost of the repairs. But, if you have car insurance, if something should happen, the insurance company will handle the costs. On top of that, if you get into an accident with someone else, the insurance will also cover their costs if you have to.

The final main type of insurance is homeowners insurance. Whether because of fire, weather, or any other sort of natural occurrence, something happens to your house, this insurance provides money to recover. For example, if there was an electrical fire and the entire house burned down, the insurance company would provide money for the value of the house and the assets inside. This is an important way of guaranteeing that someone’s house and property is safe.

Health, life, car and homeowner insurances are great ways of guaranteeing that the important things in life—health, family after death, car and home—are insured and safe from disaster. While the premiums can sometimes get pricey, consider it as an investment on yourself. You’re investing in the long term to ensure everything goes according to plan. And if not, there is money there just in case.

At “Meet the Press” of NBC he said, “It’s very difficult to make the case that unemployment is coming down any time soon.”

According to last week’s government report, in January the economy has lost about 20,000 jobs despite the rate of unemployment dipping from 10 per cent to 9.7 per cent. A new tax and spending measures has been called by President Barack obama and congressional Democrats to boost the economy. A “jobs bill” is aimed to be taken by the Senate aims this week. In December last year the House passed a $154 billion package.

Greenspan also added in the meet, “I think we’re going to stay at this 9 to 10 percent level for the rest of the year.”

PORTLAND, Ore. – (BUSINESS WIRE) – During the long, demanding hours of the tax season, tax preparers are deluged in a constant exchange of sensitive information with clients. Private client information, such as social security numbers, travels back and forth between the preparer and client for tax returns and forms, financial statements and letters of opinion. Face-to-face meetings can be impractical, fax machines provide an unreliable level of confidentiality, and while remarkably efficient, traditional email fails to protect the privacy of this data from interception and puts both the sender and recipient at risk.

Smarsh, the managed service leader in secure, innovative and reliable email archiving and compliance solutions, today announced a new promotion for its smarshEncrypt secure messaging platform aimed at certified public accounting (CPA) firms. smarshEncrypt can be deployed quickly, offers a simple and efficient user experience and, most importantly, protects the transmission of messages and files in accordance with emerging data breach mandates and legislation.

“smarshEncrypt enables tax preparers to leverage the efficiency benefits associated with email while protecting themselves and their clients from data leaks and identity theft,” said Stephen Marsh, CEO and founder of Smarsh. “Rather than implementing complicated encryption procedures that impede business processes, CPA firms can deploy a convenient and secure solution immediately, collaborate on large files securely without worrying about file-size limits and demonstrate a clear commitment to the security of their clients’ data.”

Why smarshEncrypt?

Protecting clients’ valuable electronic data has never been more mission-critical. Use of traditional email to transfer private information can leave businesses susceptible to data breach and subsequent reputational, legal and financial consequences. The punitive ramifications of failure to protect sensitive data outweigh the cost of deploying encryption capabilities.

Over 40 states have enacted data breach notification and disclosure acts, and in some states, such as Arizona, Florida, Texas and Colorado, businesses face civil or criminal penalty for failure to promptly disclose breaches to customers. The most progressive state laws (Nevada and Massachusetts) – in effect or soon to be – require businesses to use a secure messaging solution for transferring electronic data. Later this year, the Federal Trade Commissions’s Red Flags Rule will take effect, requiring covered organizations to implement a written program to detect, prevent and mitigate identity theft.

How does it work?

smarshEncrypt is a hosted secure messaging platform that enables users to securely send and receive messages and files. Message recipients are notified of the secure transmission and follow simple instructions to access the smarshEncrypt platform. In seconds, the sender and recipient(s) can confidentially and securely read and reply to messages.

Deployed via the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, smarshEncrypt lightens the burden on email servers, as both secure messages and attached files reside in the smarshEncrypt platform, rather than on the sender’s or recipient’s email server. Clients can use smarshEncrypt as a dedicated, secure file transfer system and eliminate the impact of file-size limits within their email systems. Email-related storage and costs are reduced, as is impact on network bandwidth.

No hardware, software or plug-ins are needed to access the Web-based system, and there are no certificate or key exchanges necessary to access secure messages. The smarshEncrypt platform works with any operating system, and service is compatible with Web-enabled mobile messaging devices.

All aspects of an organization’s smarshEncrypt experience – including notifications – can be customized, strengthening branding efforts and building trust with a demonstrated commitment to client data security.

Free through tax season

New customers who sign up for a one-year engagement can use smarshEncrypt to send and receive messages and files securely for free through April 15, 2010. Pricing is based on seat count and applicable service modules and starts as low as $10 per account per month. Quotes are available by contacting Smarsh directly at 1-877-278-9561. For more information or for a no-obligation demonstration of smarshEncrypt, visit www.smarshencrypt.com/tax.

Smarsh is the managed service leader in secure, innovative and reliable email-archiving solutions for message compliance and records retention, proactive litigation readiness and mail server data management. Smarsh solutions for data-leak prevention and secure messaging help users meet email and file transfer encryption obligations, mitigate risk associated with outbound email, and facilitate email supervision.

Founded in 2001, the growth of Smarsh has been recognized at both the local and national level. In 2008 and 2009, the company was named to the “Inc. 500,” Inc. magazine’s annual analysis of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. Deloitte honored Smarsh with a spot on its Technology Fast 500 list for 2009 and the Portland Business Journal recently ranked Smarsh No. 1 in its 2009 growth rankings for the state of Oregon.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 29 — Microsoft on Thursday announced the net profit of its second quarter hit $6.66 billion, a record high. It said that the unprecedented revenue was driven by the immense demand of its new operating system, Windows 7.

The company told to the media its revenue surged 14% i.e. $19.02 billion in the 3Q fiscal ended December 31.

Peter Klein, the chief financial officer of Microsoft, said in a press conference, “We saw record revenue and record profit, driven by strong demand for Windows 7 and PCs (personal computers).”

It is a 57% jump from last years same quarter. Now the net income per share has gone to 74 cents.

According to company officials, Microsoft has licensed or sold over 60 million Windows 7 copies that was launched on October 22 last year with the Windows Server 2008 R2 software.

On the opening days of Windows 7, the US sales blasted past those of Vista predecessor noted the NPD Group.

There was immense pressure on Microsoft for making the Windows 7 a success as its Vista operating system did not do well.

Across the globe, users as well as technology analysts have overall praised this new operating system of Microsoft and mentioned it as a significant improvement over Vista.

WASHINGTON – The Senate has confirmed Ben Bernanke for a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve.

The Senate voted 70-30 on Thursday to reappoint Bernanke amid criticism of his judgment ahead of the financial crisis and his support for massive Wall Street bailouts. His supporters credited him for engineering a financial industry rescue in time to prevent a catastrophic collapse.

The vote was the closest ever for a nominee for Fed chairman. It came amid roiling public anger over the economy and stubbornly high unemployment that fueled a populist backlash against Bernanke. No Fed chairman has been rejected in the Senate.

Bernanke’s current term expires Sunday.

Senate critics had arrayed themselves against Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, determined to take issue with his bid for a second term leading the nation’s central bank even as his confirmation seemed assured.

Bernanke needed a 60-vote super majority to beat a filibuster aimed at blocking his reappointment. He received enough votes.

“Bernanke fiddled while our markets burned,” said Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., voicing a common complaint that Bernanke did not detect the coming crisis and failed to rein in the banking industry.

His supporters argue that once the crisis was upon him he used aggressive and creative measures to bring stability to the financial system.

“He has kept a steady hand on the tiller in a perfect economic storm,” Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., said.

The final confirmation vote could still be the slimmest for a Federal Reserve nominee, eclipsing the opposition to Paul Volcker in 1983, when he was confirmed for a second term by a vote of 84-16. No Fed chairman nominee has been rejected by the Senate.

The stock market has been rooting for Bernanke. The Dow Jones industrial average plunged last week amid news of mounting opposition, then recovered when his prospects brightened.

The Federal Reserve wields enormous power over American pocketbooks. It has the power to set interest rates that influence economic activity, employment and inflation. And it helps maintain economic stability by making emergency loans to banks when they can’t get cash elsewhere.

“I believe that the chairman is going to be confirmed by a bipartisan vote,” Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Wednesday.

Widely credited with avoiding a financial catastrophe, Bernanke has angered the public and lawmakers with his support of Wall Street bailouts — especially the $182 billion rescue of insurance giant American International Group Inc. The criticism has mounted as unemployment has risen to double digits and banks paid out huge bonuses to their executives.

“He was asleep at the switch while Wall Street became a gambling casino,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent who is among the opposition.

The biggest challenge facing the Fed this year will be how and when to reverse course and raise interest rates. To foster the recovery, the Fed on Wednesday kept interest rates at a record low and pledged to hold them there for some time.

Though Bernanke may overcome a filibuster threat with 60 or more votes, his support on the final confirmation vote will probably be smaller. Several senators have said they would oppose blocking a vote on his confirmation but would vote against his reappointment.

Sanders stopped short of conceding that Bernanke would be confirmed, but he said the close tally would send a message to President Barack obama.

The confirmation fight and the attacks on the Fed have become a test of central bank independence. The Fed jealously guards its autonomy as a crucial element for carrying out monetary policy, even if it isn’t popular with politicians.

Bernanke, 56, was first tapped by President George W. bush to run the nation’s central bank. Obama picked him for a second term in August. His term expires Jan. 31.

Most of his professional career was in academia. He spent 17 years teaching economics at Princeton.

BEIJING -- China sharply rebuked the United States on Monday, denying involvement in any Internet attacks and defending its online restrictions as lawful after Washington urged Beijing to investigate an attack against Google. The search engine giant announced on Jan. 12 that it would pull out of China unless the government relaxes its rules on censorship. The ultimatum came after Google said e-mail accounts of human rights activists critical of China had been hacked. Since then, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has criticized the censorship of cyberspace, drawing a strong counterattack from Beijing. The Foreign Ministry on Friday said her remarks damaged bilateral relations, while a Chinese state newspaper said Washington was imposing "information imperialism" on China. On Monday, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology went on the offensive again, saying the country's anti-hacking policy is transparent and consistent. "Any accusation that the Chinese government participated in cyberattacks, either in an explicit or indirect way, is groundless and aims to discredit China," an unidentified ministry spokesman said, according to a transcript of an interview with the official Xinhua News Agency posted on the ministry's Web site. The increasingly heated environment is likely to pose challenges to negotiating an arrangement that would suit both Google's and China's interests. The company says it remains optimistic it can persuade China's ruling party to loosen restrictions on free expression on the Internet, so it can keep doing business in the country. However, China's government has given little indication it's willing to budge. "Increasingly, the line emerging from the Chinese government is harder and less open to compromise," said Russell Leigh Moses, an analyst of Chinese politics based in Beijing. "Hillary Clinton's speech was seen by many officials here as the United States' laying down a marker and put matters in a more confrontational mode." The Communist Party's official People's Daily newspaper also accused the U.S. government of strictly controlling the Internet at home on Monday while urging other countries to build an "Internet freedom utopia." "In reality, this 'Internet freedom' that it is marketing everywhere is nothing but a diplomatic strategy, and only an illusion of freedom," the paper said. Xinhua also cited the State Council, China's Cabinet, as criticizing what it called interference in the country's domestic affairs. Internet control is considered a critical matter of state security in China. Beijing promotes Internet use for commerce, but heavily censors content it deems pornographic, anti-social or politically subversive and blocks many foreign news and social media sites, including Twitter and Facebook, and the popular video-sharing site YouTube. Google said it had uncovered a computer attack that tried to plunder its software coding and the Gmail accounts of human rights activists protesting Chinese policies. The company traced the attacks on its computers to hackers in China, but hasn't directly tied them to the Chinese government or its agents. A Chinese Internet security official questioned the allegation, saying Google had not reported its complaints to China's National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team. "We have been hoping that Google will contact us so that we could have details on this issue and provide them help if necessary," Zhou Yonglin, the team's deputy chief of operations, said in an interview with Xinhua posted on the team's Web site. Zhou said the team logged attacks on 262,000 Chinese computers last year by hackers implanting malicious software such as Trojans, which can allow outside access to the target's computer. More than 16 percent of the attacks came from computers located in the U.S., he said.

LOS ANGELES -- James Cameron's "Avatar" is on a course to sink "Titanic" at the box office. No. 1 for the sixth-straight weekend with $36 million, the 20th Century Fox sci-fi spectacle lifted its domestic total to $552.8 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. "Avatar" raised its worldwide total to $1.841 billion. That's $2 million shy of first place behind Cameron's last movie, the 1997 shipwreck epic "Titanic," at $1.843 billion. "It defies all superlatives," said Chris Aronson, head of distribution for Fox. The studio said "Avatar" has hit $1.29 billion in international ticket sales, passing the $1.24 billion mark set by "Titanic." The saga set on the alien world of Pandora is also en route to overtake "Titanic" in domestic sales. After 37 days in theaters, "Avatar" soared past "The Dark Knight" on Saturday to become the second highest grossing film. "We're witnessing box office history," said Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com. "We're watching all of these big records fall, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. 'Avatar' is dominating at a time where it has no big summer blockbusters to compete with it. It's perfectly poised to keep breaking all these records." "Avatar" is also positioned to win acclaim during awards season. While the computer-assisted performances didn't earn any honors at Saturday's Screen Actors Guild Awards, it captured the best drama and director trophies at last week's Golden Globes and is considered a likely best-picture front runner when Oscar nominations are announced Feb. 2. Screen Gems' apocalyptic thriller "Legion," featuring Paul Bettany as an Armageddon-fighting fallen angel, debuted behind "Avatar" at No. 2 with $18.2 million. Fox's family fantasy comedy "Tooth Fairy," starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a hockey player who spreads his wings as a magical deity, took flight in the No. 4 spot with $14.5 million. Warner Bros. grabbed the No. 3 position with "The Book of Eli" at $17 million in its second week, despite three other films debuting in wide release this weekend. The post-apocalyptic action flick stars Denzel Washington as a traveling prophet who battles a villainous gang leader played by Gary Oldman while protecting the last known Bible. The medical drama "Extraordinary Measures," the first film from new distributor CBS Films, opened with a disappointing $7 million in the No. 7 position. The film features Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser as a doctor and businessman who collaborate to develop a drug that will treat a rare genetic disorder affecting children. "It did well in middle America," said Steven Friedlander, head of distribution for CBS Films. "This is not a shoot-'em-up or fantasy film. It's the true story of people doing courageous things, and it's building good word of mouth. This is the kind of movie that plays well to a family friendly crowd who doesn't need to see the movie the weekend it opens." Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Monday. 1. "Avatar," $36 million. 2. "Legion," $18.2 million. 3. "The Book of Eli," $17 million. 4. "Tooth Fairy," $14.5 million. 5. "The Lovely Bones," $8.8 million. 6. "Sherlock Holmes," $7.1 million. 7. "Extraordinary Measures," $7 million. 8. "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," $6.5 million. 9. "It's Complicated," $6.2 million. 10. "The Spy Next Door," $4.8 million. --- On the Net: http://www.hollywood.com/boxoffice

LOS ANGELES -- While Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock's chances for Academy Award gold were advanced with their trophies at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the blockbuster "Avatar" may have felt a touch blue. The computer-assisted performances in James Cameron's "Avatar" didn't make the cut for SAG nominations. But the groundbreaking sci-fi film remains a strong best-picture contender for the Oscars in March. For Bridges of "Crazy Heart," Bullock of "The Blind Side" and for SAG supporting-acting honorees Mo'Nique of "Precious" and Christoph Waltz of "Inglourious Basterds," there's reason to suspect the Oscar ceremony will be a happy rerun of Saturday's SAG Awards and last Sunday's Golden Globes. All four were recognized at the Globes, as well, while "Avatar" was named best drama and Cameron won as best director. He will face competition from director Quentin Tarantino, whose "Inglourious Basterds" won the SAG Award for best ensemble performance, which can be a precursor to the top Oscar award. Last year, SAG's movie cast award was presented to "Slumdog Millionaire," which went on to win the best picture Oscar. "It was an honor to be part of it, Quentin," "Inglourious Basterds" cast member Eli Roth said in accepting the award for his fellow actors in the off-kilter World War II revenge saga. Bullock declined - strenuously - to look ahead. "Shhhhh. Shhhhh. Shhhhh," Bullock said backstage when she was asked to speculate on her Oscar chances. She won for her portrayal of a tenacious real-life mom, Leigh Anne Tuohy, who helped a youth in need, future NFL player Michael Oher. "I would be a hostess or a waitress or a house restorer before I ever considered myself an actor, because I never thought I was good enough," she added. Although respected by his peers, Bridges has largely been bypassed for major awards. "I love being an actor - pretending to be other people and getting into the shoes of other folks," said Bridges, who plays a hard-luck, hard-living country singer in "Crazy Heart." Waltz was honored for his role as an enthusiastically ruthless Nazi. Mo'Nique's trophy came for her searing portrayal of an abusive mother in "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' By Sapphire." On the TV side of the SAG Awards, the cast of AMC's 1960s Madison Avenue saga "Mad Men" won the trophy for best drama series ensemble for the second year in a row, while 19 cast members of Fox TV newcomer "Glee," about misfits in a high school singing club, accepted the award for best comedy series ensemble. "Glee" claimed the best comedy series award at the Golden Globes. Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey of NBC's "30 Rock" won for best acting in a comedy series, allowing Fey to get in a sly joke about NBC and its bitter late-night battle with Conan O'Brien in her acceptance speech. "I just wanted to take a moment to say to everyone at NBC, we are very happy with everything, and happy to be there," she said. Both she and Baldwin won the awards last year. Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall of Showtime's "Dexter," wearing a cap because of treatment he's receiving for Hodgkin's lymphoma, won best actor in a drama series. The award for best actress in a drama went to Julianna Margulies of CBS' "The Good Wife." Kevin Bacon won as best actor in a movie or miniseries for the war-themed drama, "Taking Chance," while Drew Barrymore received best actress honors in the category for "Grey Gardens," about eccentric relatives of Jacqueline Onassis. Betty White, 88, accepted a lifetime achievement award from Bullock for an enduring career that included "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Golden Girls," and showed her sharp comedic chops. When Bullock joked that she finds White annoying, White shot back, "Isn't it heartening to see how far a girl as plain as she is can go." "I should be presenting an award to you for the privilege of working in this wonderful business all this time. And you still can't get rid of me," White told the audience. Actors in two highly critically acclaimed films went home empty-handed, including "Up in the Air" star George Clooney and the film's supporting actresses, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick. The cast of "The Hurt Locker" also lost out. Clooney, however, was lauded by SAG President Ken Howard for helping organize Friday's telethon to raise money for earthquake-devastated Haiti, a rare reference to the tragedy. Two honors not shown in the telecast went to stunt ensembles for the film "Star Trek" and the TV show "24." --- On the Net: http://www.sagawards.org

Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey of NBC’s “30 Rock” won for best acting in a comedy series, allowing Fey to get in a sly joke about NBC and its bitter late-night battle with Conan O’Brien in her acceptance speech.

“I just wanted to take a moment to say to everyone at NBC, we are very happy with everything, and happy to be there,” she said. Both she and Baldwin won the awards last year.

Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall of Showtime’s “Dexter,” wearing a cap because of treatment he’s receiving for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, won best actor in a drama series. The award for best actress in a drama went to Julianna Margulies of CBS’ “The Good Wife.”

Kevin Bacon won as best actor in a movie or miniseries for the war-themed drama, “Taking Chance,” while Drew Barrymore received best actress honors in the category for “Grey Gardens,” about eccentric relatives of Jacqueline Onassis.

Betty White, 88, accepted a lifetime achievement award from Bullock for an enduring career that included “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Golden Girls,” and showed her sharp comedic chops.

When Bullock joked that she finds White annoying, White shot back, “Isn’t it heartening to see how far a girl as plain as she is can go.”

“I should be presenting an award to you for the privilege of working in this wonderful business all this time. And you still can’t get rid of me,” White told the audience.

Actors in two highly critically acclaimed films went home empty-handed, including “Up in the Air” star George Clooney and the film’s supporting actresses, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick. The cast of “The Hurt Locker” also lost out.

Clooney, however, was lauded by SAG President Ken Howard for helping organize Friday’s telethon to raise money for earthquake-devastated Haiti, a rare reference to the tragedy.

Two honors not shown in the telecast went to stunt ensembles for the film “Star Trek” and the TV show “24.”

NEW YORK -- Arthur Miller's "A View From the Bridge" is a blue-collar Greek tragedy, a potent mix of melodrama and a classic fall from grace usually reserved for the brightest and best of heroes. Although Eddie Carbone, Miller's doomed Brooklyn longshoreman, is inarticulate and confused about his feelings, there is an odd nobility to the man, particularly in Liev Schreiber's mesmerizing performance in a powerful revival of the play that opened Sunday at Broadway's Cort Theatre. Schreiber captures Eddie's moral rigidity with astonishing fidelity. It's a rigidity that turns to rage as his world begins to unravel. But then the entire cast, under Gregory Mosher's astute direction, contributes to the production's effectiveness. Beside Schreiber, the revival stars Scarlett Johansson as Catherine, Eddie's attractive, 17-year-old niece and the object of his deeply repressed lust. Johansson, making her Broadway debut, is a revelation, giving a shaded, nuanced performance. At first, she's sweetly fond of her uncle, only later realizing his unspoken attentions. And check out her impeccable Brooklyn accent. "Bridge" is not only the story of one man. It is a tale of a community, in this case the Italian-American enclave in Red Hook, a neighborhood that has its own sets of rules and social mores. And Mosher makes sure we get a feel for its insularity, starting with designer John Lee Beatty's grimy row of apartment buildings, including one that contains Eddie's claustrophobic, drab apartment. "Justice is very important here," says the lawyer Alfieri, right at the top of the tale. The man serves as the narrator and moral center of "Bridge," and Michael Cristofer plays him with a fierce sense of right and wrong. Immediately we know retribution is inevitable. If the belligerent Eddie is overprotective of his niece, he neglects his wife, Beatrice, a good woman driven to sad anger by her preoccupied husband. A touching Jessica Hecht finds the loneliness in this unhappy helpmate as well as the bitterness that comes from being denied attention. Yet it is Beatrice who has the insight into her husband's unspoken desires. "You gonna keep her in the house all her life?" the woman asks about her niece as Eddie fumbles for an answer. Miller's plot revolves around the arrival of the wife's cousins, illegal immigrants, who hide from the authorities while secretly working on the docks. And it's Catherine's attraction to one of them (an ingratiating Morgan Spector) that sets up the play's violent ending. "A View From the Bridge," originally a one-act play, was first seen on Broadway in 1955, but Miller later revised the script, turning it into two acts. Still, there is an economy of style to the piece in its longer form. The language is tough, almost muscular in its gritty depiction of a world where honor is all and men's lives are shaped by it. As Alfieri says of the play's protagonist: "Eddie Carbone never expected to have a destiny." At the Cort, Schreiber, Johansson and company have managed to make it a memorable one.

The Country Club of Naples has been around since 1966 when it was first founded. The only other courses around at the time were Hole-in-the-wall, The Beach Club and Palm River. The Country Club of naples was the first full service club in the area and boasted a championship course over a distance of 6,500 yards.

Regarded as prime Naples commercial real estate, the Country Club of Naples has an enviable location a little way off the I-75 in beautifully sculpted landscapes, lakes, clubhouse, and other amenities.

The original course was designed by the famous architect William Diddel. He had designed over 300 courses in Canada and the United States and was the founder of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.

The Country Club of Naples members decided it was time to restore the club to its former glory and closed its doors on April 5th 2009 so they could begin work. The scope was impressive, a complete remodel of the course from the bunkers up. The length was increased from 6,500 yards to 6,800, all bunkers, tees and greens were rebuilt. The landscape modified to match the “Old Florida” style with cypress trees, native plants and grasses.

Local business carried out the work in designer Gordon Lewis as the architect and Jim Glase Golf Construction as the builder. Oversight by the club’s superintendent Bill Davidson made sure everything went smoothly. The finished article is testament to the hard work and skill of these local people.

The revamped course was re-opened on October 31st 2009 where members were presented with a completely restored and improved course. It now has six tees for all skill levels, beautiful, natural landscapes and 700 new trees to line the fairways and greens. They were unanimously pleased with the results, and have since welcomed a further 29 new members since the opening.

As a full service club there are other amenities as well as the course. There is a driving range, putting green, pool, tennis courts and a well stocked golf shop. They have also installed wireless internet!

Once you have worked up an appetite on the course or other activities you can dine in the fine dining restaurant in the clubhouse. Here they offer a full dinner, buffets and special events. You can choose from a fine dining menu, a casual “Suppertime” menu and a “Tableside” menu or just enjoy a coffee and a snack in the Foundation Café or Tavern by the Green.

While it isn’t what springs to mind when you think of Naples commercial real estate, that is exactly what it is. A profit making commercial enterprise wrapped up in a beautiful, scenic, relaxing wrapper. A great place to spend the day.
