
CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Cape Police arrested four suspects who were involved in an armed robbery that occurred early Sunday morning near the Cape Paradise Hotel. Elienit Maldonado, Erick Ortiz, Justin Taveras, and Kristy Torres were charged with Robbery after they were detained while trying to flee the crime scene. At 1:57 a.m. Sunday, Cape Coral Police officers with Platoon Four (South District) were conducting a DUI arrest in the 4900 block of Del Prado Boulevard South when they heard a gunshot near the corner of the Cape Paradise Hotel at 1502 Miramar Street. Officer Joshua Morgan located the victim who advised that someone had attempted to rob him and fired a shot at him. He described the suspects’ vehicle, and Cape Police Officer John Montgomery located the van as it attempted to drive away. A felony stop was conducted, and the four suspects were located inside the van along with an infant. According to the victim, he received a call from Torres, who he knew from church, asking to “hang out.” He told Torres he was looking to buy some marijuana, and he met Torres at the CVS on Cape Coral Parkway. She arrived in the van with three other individuals he did not know. They drove back to the hotel, and upon arrival, Ortiz and Taveras exited the van with the victim. Ortiz placed a black revolver to the victim’s head and demanded that he empty his pockets. The victim refused, and the Ortiz fired a shot near his head. The four suspects then attempted to flee the scene. During an interview with Cape Coral Detective Patricia Enterline, Ortiz confessed to being the shooter. He stated that he and the other three suspects needed money, and Torres had contacted the victim as a possible target to rob. Ortiz and the other three suspects confirmed the victim’s version of the events. Based on the evidence, probable cause existed to arrest all four suspects and charge them with Robbery with a Firearm. CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Cape Police arrested two suspects after they attacked a bicyclist and stole his bike on Saturday night. Cornelius Robinson and Angel K. Quinones were charged with Robbery after knocking the victim from his bike and stealing the bicycle. Robinson also was charged with Battery after hitting the victim in the face. At 9:37 p.m., Cape Police responded to a 911 call of a disturbance in progress in the 1400 block of Del Prado Boulevard South. According to the victim, he was leaving the Clubhouse Bar on his bicycle when he was confronted by four males who began to harass him. He stated that Quinones knocked him from his bicycle, and Robinson then struck him in the face. The two men took his bicycle and left the parking lot. Cape Police Officers with Platoon Four (Central District) were able to detain four males in the 1300 block of Del Prado who met the descriptions of the suspects. Officers determined that Robinson and Quinones were responsible for the crime, and the two were taken into custody and charged with Robbery. Robinson also was charged with Battery, booked and transported to the Lee County Jail. Quinones was taken the Juvenile Assessment Center. CAPE CORAL, Fla – Drivers are upset their cars were towed during 4th of July celebrations. Several cars towed from El Mambo Restaurant at the corner of SE 47th terrace and Del Prado Boulevard. A mother and her baby girl among those left without a car. A family visiting from Georgia is upset the city of Cape Coral did not ask area businesses not to tow during the Red, White and Boom celebration. American Towing insists they did nothing wrong and point to the at least five signs that are posted in the parking lot warning drivers that parking spaces are for customers only. Drivers say they spoke to the restaurant and were told the tow signs were clearly visible and they shouldn’t have parked there. All were able to get their cars back for $145. CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Community members ride in support of the family of a seven year old girl hit and killed by a car in Cape Coral. Abigail Janssen was killed earlier this month.? Sunday, a cookout and poker run was held in her honor. “It’s been a very sad situation for all of us, and, this is just all of her friends, getting together and doing something for them,” said fundraiser organizer Chili Pinheiro. Pictures of Janssen are up inside Bottles Lounge on Del Prado Boulevard.? In one photo, her parents Chris and Mandy sit beside her.? Now a tremendous void is left behind, as Abigail was their only child.? Friends gathered to show compassion and support, and also to raise money to help with funeral costs. “She was their world, they were all very close,” said family friend Renee Schad.? “Chris was just a wonderful dad, she’s a great mom and, they had special things that they did together.? It’s just so hard to think about losing a child that way.” Abigail was killed in a Cape Coral neighborhood on June 2nd.? Police say she and a cousin were lying on their stomachs, playing on skateboards, when they rode from their driveway into the street.? At the same time, a Ford F-150 driven by 27 year old Jacob Amann was on the road.? The girls collided with the truck. According to reports, Amann hit the brakes and swerved, but it was too late.? His front tire had run over Abigail Janssen, killing her. As the healing process for Abigail’s parents proves to be an unfathomable challenge, friends like Renee Schad vow to be there every step of the way. “They come together for a loss like this and everybody had just been so wonderful, so giving, and so caring, it was just amazing,” Schad said. There will be another benefit to the family of Abigail Janssen on July 17th at the Skyline Eagles Club.? The total amount raised from Sunday’s event was more than $2,000 dollars. CAPE CORAL, Fla. – One person was killed and two others injured in a crash on Del Prado Boulevard on Friday evening. Cape Coral police say 20 year-old Brittany Nicole Lehman was a passenger in the front seat of a car that slammed into a tree.? Officers say she died at the scene. Cape police say the teenage passenger and the driver, 22 year-old John Patrick Roberts, both suffered serious injuries. Police say Roberts was speeding on Del Prado when his car drifted off the road, skidded, and hit the tree head-on. Cape police are conducting a traffic homicide investigation.? Officers say alcohol was a factor in the crash. Lehman is the sixth person to die in a traffic crash in Cape Coral this year. They’re also not regulated by code enforcement. Chris Dodson says when he shakes his sign outside the Papa Johns on Del Prado Boulevard, the cars pile in. He says, “It’s actually a good feeling because I can see them do a U turn and come back.” Human billboards- in just the past few years cape resident Chris George says they’ve become extremely popular. He says, “I mean they have people everywhere holding signs now.” Code enforcement officials it started when the economy went south and it’s not just the restaurants looking for business. Cape resident Pete Locascio says, “Gold, buying gold, restaurants, anything you can think of, pool supplies, everything, it’s pretty crazy with the signs.” That’s because at least when attracting some customers – the billboards work. Bicyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in collision with car By WINK News Story Created: Feb 20, 2010 at 1:55 PM EST Story Updated: Feb 20, 2010 at 1:55 PM EST CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A bicyclist traveling on Del Prado Boulevard suffered life-threatening injuries Friday night when he crossed the roadway into the path of a car. Robert Lee Berry (DOB: 02/10/1984) was struck by a vehicle in the 2500 block of Del Prado Boulevard North near Kismet Parkway just after 9:00pm. Berry was riding his silver Triax bicycle when his bicycle entered the path of a 1992 green Toyota driven by Daniel Daniele (DOB: 09/18/1962). Daniele’s vehicle skidded about 162 feet, and the front of his car struck the left side of the bicycle. The impact tossed Berry off the bicycle onto the hood of the Toyota and into the windshield. The Toyota came to a stop about 10 feet from Berry. Berry suffered serious head trauma from the impact with the windshield. Due to the life-threatening signs of the injuries, he was transported by ambulance as a trauma alert to Lee Memorial Hospital. Berry was in the Intensive Care Unit Saturday morning with critical injuries to the head and chest area. The Daniele was not injured. Solange Jose is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding police. Cape police tried stopping jose for a traffic violation on Del Prado Boulevard Tuesday afternoon. As the officer approached, he says Jose tried to hit him with her car and took off. Officers followed Jose until she hit a tree and crashed on Nicholas Parkway, closing the road for more than hour.
