LOS ANGELES (AP) — Grammy-winning rapper T.I., who is still on probation after spending time behind bars on gun charges, was arrested along with his wife on drug charges after police smelled alleged marijuana coming from their car, authorities said. The Wednesday night arrests for possession of a controlled substance occurred in West Hollywood during a traffic stop, Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy Mark Pope told The Associated Press. “Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle,” the department said. “A narcotics investigation ensued” that resulted in the arrests. The department’s media office said it didn’t yet have details on which specific drug the possession charge concerned. The arrests reflect that last week of socialite Paris Hilton, whose is being investigated for felony cocaine possession after a motorcycle officer smelled pot wafting from her car. The Atlanta-based T.I., 29, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., and Cottle, a 36-year-old singer who sang with the 1990s group Xscape and has recently been the star of the BET reality series “The Tiny & Toya Show,” were booked at the West Hollywood sheriff’s station. Bail was set at $10,000 each. Pope said Thursday that he didn’t know if they were still being held. T.I.’s publicist declined to comment. T.I., the multiplatinum hitmaker who has a key role in the current top box office movie “Takers,” served seven months in an Arkansas federal prison and three months in a Georgia halfway house on federal weapons charges and was released in March. He is on three years’ probation. Since that case, T.I., who had spent time behind bars for drug offenses before, vowed to live a better life. He spoke to kids about the dangers of drugs and guns, and former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young was one of his supporters. As he prepared for his most recent sentence, he starred in the MTV reality show “T.I.’s Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go.” The father of five married Cottle in late July. “Takers,” a shoot ‘em up about an armored truck robbery that goes bad, was released last week and topped the box-office chart. In a recent interview with The Associated Press, T.I. talked about living a more positive life. “Right now, it’s all about moving forward and just acknowledging the blessing that are here today. … Just moving past the regrets of yesterday – the things that could’ve been done better,” T.I. said in a July interview. T.I., who is known as the “King of the South,” has emerged one of music’s most profitable stars over the last few years. He is working on a new album, “King Uncaged,” which may be released this year. — Associated Press Music Writer Nekesa Mumbi Moody contributed to this report. ? 2010 The Associated Press . LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – A mother of four scares off two would-be burglars with a plastic bat, and then leads deputies to their arrest. She says, “They was coming in here! And when I realized that they was coming, I banged, and I was like, ya’ll aint coming in here!” When the doorbell rang at this Lehigh Acres home, this mother of four, armed herself with a bat. She says, “I knew I was not expecting company.” She didn’t know, she was going to have to defend herself and her two young children who were home at the time. “When I seen them put their ski masks on, I was already on the phone with 911, I grabbed both of my kids, and I was ready for whatever.” It’s a good thing. It wasn’t long before two thieves walked around the house and then tried to break her living room window. “They had the screw driver, and they was banging right here, and that’s when I pulled up my blinds, and I was like, Go away! Go away!” It worked.? The suspects ran to their car and drove off, but they didn’t get far. Not only did she have a vehicle description to give to deputies, but a license plate number. Deputies arrested 24 year old Gilberto Roman and 26 year old Jeremy Livingstone, here at the Hess Express. Still shaken, this mother can’t believe her own bravery. “I wasn’t going to let them hurt my kids, I just told them to stay quiet, mom got this.” Related Articles Cape Coral employees will no longer take work cars home Fla. nursing home evacuated after pipe bomb found Number of illegal immigrants in US now declining Deputies search for suspect in Golden Gate stabbing

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Police said a 37-year-old man driving a dump truck led them on an hour-long chase over roads, rails and yards in the Syracuse area that ended with the suspect being shot. The Onondaga County Sheriff said Stanley Lostumbo jumped into a dump truck Tuesday night after being accused of stealing from vending machines at a mall. Police pursued the truck on a highway, through backyards and school grounds and down railroad tracks at speeds up to 65 mph before stopping it at a barricade in East Syracuse. Police said Lostumbo reversed the truck and hit a sheriff’s vehicle and officers fired, apparently striking Lostumbo in the shoulder. He was briefly hospitalized for minor injuries. Deputies were questioning Lostumbo. It was not clear if he had a lawyer. — Information from: The Post-Standard, http://www.syracuse.com ? 2010 The Associated Press . All rights reserved. LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) – Eight animals have died after they were left inside a central Florida pet store without water and electricity. Authorities have rescued dozens of surviving animals. A caller spotted the dead animals inside Noah’s Ark Exotic Pets on Monday. Polk County Sheriff’s deputies found dead birds and chickens, and a dead rabbit, duck and lizard. Deputies said the electricity had been shut off for five days due to an unpaid bill, meaning temperatures inside the store reached more than 100 degrees. Store owner Diana Cabrera said she was out of town when the power went out. It’s unclear who was in charge during her absence. Birds, hamsters, chickens, a turtle, a duck and two geckos were among the surviving animals. MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — A man who bought a cell phone online, only to find it was the same one that was stolen from his car, tipped off California sheriff’s deputies, who arrested a man they believe broke into dozens of vehices. Deputies arrested 28-year-old Neil Hefner and recovered 163 cell phones, along with computers, wallets, gift cards and rare coins. He was booked for investigation of burglary. Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. John Benedict says one victim was looking for a new phone on Craigslist, found one that looked like his old one and bought it. When it arrived, many of his phone numbers were still programmed into it so he called deputies. Benedict says the seller’s return address was on the package. ? 2010 The Associated Press . FORT MYERS, Fla. – Caught in the act. A man is arrested after he’s seen burglarizing a woman’s home, naked. Samantha Witt says, “I opened the door, and I was saw an Asian man, running outside with no clothes on, and I was just very confused with what was going on.” Witt was not nearly as confused as her friend, Lacy Williams who says she was deep in sleep at her Forestwood Apartment when 23 year old William Pasiak entered her home, and stripped off his clothes. Williams says, “She comes in about 4- 4:30 and woke me up. She said some guy was in my house buck naked.” Williams says she had left her door unlocked so Witt could get in. Witt says, “Right about here, he flew right past me, I didn’t really think anything, I was such in shock.” This wasn’t the women’s first encounter with Pasiak. They say he often lurked around the apartment. Williams says, “About a week and a half ago, he was caught in front on my bedroom window, he was trying to look in my window as I was getting dressed, so I approached him, told him, he needed to get away from my window and not come back my apartment again.” Williams says she told the leasing office, but without knowing his name, they said there was nothing they could do. “I haven’t been able to sleep in my house since.” Pasiak was arrested after deputies found cash and a cell phone belonging to Williams in the apartment next to her, where Pasiak was staying with a friend. LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Two deputies have been demoted for botching a burglary investigation that lead to a deadly high speed crash. In July of last year deputies took off after two burglary suspects. As they flew down Palm Beach Boulevard, a car made a U-turn and slammed into an unmarked deputy cruiser. The driver was killed. Sergeant Kevin Karlsen and Detective William Lucas both lost rank for messing up the original burglary investigation. An internal affairs report said the two didn’t pass along correct information from witnesses to that burglary.
