Wyo. troopers examine human ashes in traffic stop

FARSON, Wyo. (AP) — The powdery substance that Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers found in a zip-close bag during a recent traffic stop didn’t turn out to be drugs after all. Sgt. Stephen Townsend of the patrol said then when troopers pulled over two men in a car Wednesday, they found small amounts of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and thought the bag might hold illegal drugs. Troopers contacted the car’s owner – the girlfriend of one of the men – and asked her. The woman told troopers the baggie held her grandmother’s cremated ashes. She said they had been very close and she always keeps the ashes in her car. Townsend said troopers put the ashes back. ? 2010 The Associated Press . All rights reserved. Package for Ala. grandma contains 6 lbs. of drugs

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — A package addressed from “Grandpa Henderson” in San Diego, Calif., to “Grandma Henderson” in Talladega, Ala., wasn’t ordinary mail, and it wasn’t picked up by any grandmother. The package aroused suspicions among Talladega postal inspectors, who contacted the Talladega County drug task force. Task force commander Jason Murray said a trained drug-detection dog singled out the package, and law enforcement officers waited for someone to pick it up. Three men did that Saturday. They were stopped after they left the post office, and officers found more than 6 pounds of marijuana in the package. Murray said the three have been charged with trafficking in marijuana. — Information from: The Daily Home – Talladega, http://www.dailyhome.com ? 2010 The Associated Press . All rights reserved. Family of woman attacked by dog wants justice

A woman viciously attacked by dogs is undergoing surgery. Her family says they want justice. ? David Mahon says, “Those dogs should be put down.” He’s talking about two Rottweilers believed to have viciously attacked his mother, 64-Year old Carolyn Mahon back in June. Mahon says,”They literally drug her around the whole front yard which is all concrete.” Carolyn was attacked while picking up David’s grandmother who was living at the home, owned by another woman, Julie Urian.? “She told her “wait there”, I have to go put the dogs in the kennel so they didn’t jump up on her, she’s 88 years old. When she went down and tried to do that, they turned to attack her.” Mahon is now undergoing surgery for severe head and arm injuries. The dogs owned by Urian are still at the Fort Myers home, something David can’t understand. “They need to be put down, because they can do that to some little child.” Animal control says by law they can’t euthanize the dogs because Carolyn refused to provide a statement. WINK tried to talk to Urian at her home but she refused. David says, “She asked her, do you think we should put the dogs down ? And she mumbled, no I don’t think any animal should be hurt.” He doesn’t believe his mother understands the severity of the situation, and has nightmares of the attack. “She says, I hear those dogs, David, Get em!” Mahon is currently undergoing her third surgery. David Mahon says his mother will never again have hair, and it will be years before she recovers. ? ? ? ? Connie Francis’ ‘Where the Boys Are’ gets remake

NEW YORK (AP) — Connie Francis’ classic song “Where the Boys Are” is getting a Gaga-esque update. Francis says the producer behind some of Lady Gaga’s hits and also Destiny’s Child has produced a dance remix of the torch song. “We’re going to release it on the 29th of May, which is the 50th anniversary of ‘Where the Boys Are,’” she said in a recent interview. The 71-year-old singer said she hadn’t heard the song, but added: “I want to hear it any way it sells.” Francis said she recently worked with her godson Rob Fusari on the remix. “We were recording it the other day. He was saying, `More reverb there, Connie?’” she said, laughing. “He was so cute.” Fusari recently made news when he sued Gaga, claiming he was largely responsible for her success but was ditched when she got big. Francis is performing this weekend at the Las Vegas Hilton with Dionne Warwick. Warwick said the two will do their own sets, and then sing together at the end of the show. Francis said she’s seen a change in her fans in her decades in the business. “It used to be, `Connie, can I have your autograph for my younger sister? Connie, can I have your autograph for my wall?’” she said. “Then it was, `Connie, can I have your autograph for my mother?’ And now it’s, `Connie, can I have my autograph for my grandmother?’ I hope it stops there!”
