NEW YORK (AP) — David Letterman says the scandal surrounding his workplace dalliances “knocked him down” and depressed him, but that he’s putting the pieces of his life back together. During a guest appearance on Friday’s “Live with Regis and Kelly,” the CBS late-night star said his behavior hurt his family and himself. But he sounded hopeful that life with his wife and young son can “even be better, in a different way” than before the explosive revelations that he had had sex with co-workers. Letterman made no reference to the $2 million shakedown attempt over his sex life that spurred him to acknowledge the affairs on his show last October. Former television producer Robert Halderman, who pleaded guilty to the blackmail attempt, is scheduled to be sentenced next week.

NEW YORK (AP) — Late night will meet morning again when David Letterman drops in next week on “Live with Regis and Kelly.” “Live” officials say the CBS “Late Show” host will join Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa (RIH’-puh) on April 30. That’ll be his first visit since Philbin returned to the air after heart surgery in April 2007. During that appearance, the two compared scars and swapped stories about their bypass operations. Other stars lined up for “Live” guest shots include Robert Downey Jr. on April 29, with Betty White, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Selleck and Russell Crowe appearing the following week. “Live” is syndicated and airs on weekday mornings.

But the 55-year-old comedian and former red-hot sitcom star will be on view for a full hour Thursday on “Live! with Regis and Kelly.” The syndicated weekday talk show says Seinfeld is making his first appearance as a guest co-host, alongside Kelly Ripa.
